Orthopedic Surgery Triaging
Find out if your injury may require surgery. Our sports medicine physician is available for rapid consultation to help diagnose and determine if your problem needs surgery.
For decades, injections of cortisone were used by medical doctors to help reduce pain. But what if the pain returns? How often can a person be injected with a steroid to reduce pain? Research studies are continuing to identify the flaw in conventional wisdom regarding cortisone injections.
We understand that you may be confused trying to research what the best course of treatment may be for your pain or injury. At National Spine Care, patients are asking us about non-surgical and non-pharmacological alternatives to help reduce their pain. In response, we are pleased our clinical staff includes Sports and Exercise Medicine Physicians to consult on all available non-surgical treatment options. We also understand that many people prefer natural, drug-free options for managing their pain. Our collaborative care approach supports this ideal; however, let’s face it; sometimes, it is necessary. Our physicians are highly trained to give you the safest and most effective treatment options right here in our clinic!
This can include:
- Viscosupplementation for osteoarthritis pain (e.g., Synvisc, Monovisc, Duralaine)
- Cortisone injections
- Medications such as pain killers, muscle relaxants, and anti-inflammatories or nerve pain medication. These can be prescribed as either oral or in the form of creams you rub onto the skin over the painful area(s)
We are very excited to be ahead of the curve in offering these safe and effective, physician-delivered treatment right here in our office. Our physicians work collaboratively and in close communication with your other health care team practitioners at NSCSM to ensure these pain management treatments are dovetailed with your overall health and wellness care plan.
If you need help with your research on what treatment(s) will be most effective for your individual pain or injury, our physicians will offer you advice about which non-surgical treatment options are safe and most likely to be effective.
All medically necessary diagnostic and treatment services that may be provided by
our physicians are paid for by the government under your provincial health insurance plan.
Should your care plan suggest treatment not covered by your provincial health insurance plan, this will be discussed with you prior to proceeding.
